This has been a custom at El Arroyo since the 1980s and they have gone strong with it ever since. You can’t help but laugh and chuckle at the funny signs that they post outside of their restaurant. Do you know what the fastest land mammal is? While this may not be the technically correct answer, El Arroyo seems to have gotten it right when they said that it is a toddler who’s been asked what’s in their mouth. The minute you ask them what is in their mouth, you will see them run away faster than you ever thought possible as you desperately hope it’s not something too dangerous.
The same concept here goes for puppies. The minute your dog finds out that you noticed that they have something in their mouth, there is almost no chance that you will ever get it out.
Wearing a Mask at a Bank
Who would have ever thought that the day would come when people would be going up to a bank teller with a mask on and ask for some money…especially regular non-criminal people? Probably no one ever thought that would become the norm, and yet, during Covid-19 that is exactly what happened. This funny sign couldn’t express better the craziness of that entire time period and how the world seemed to turn upside down.

Alright, now this one is probably something that everyone can relate to. Who doesn’t love the sound of the ice cream truck coming around? There is something so exciting about hearing that music and knowing that you can run outside and choose an ice cream from the vendor…all right outside your door. How amazing would this same experience be except with taco trucks? They are already in trucks, so why not drive around?
Can you imagine sitting at your house and hearing the taco truck music? It would be so exciting if you want a little snack. This Texas restaurant is onto something!
Social Distancing Forever
While many people were pretty sad about the requirement to social distance and the fact that you were expected to stay away from family and friends for the sake of health, there were some people who learned that a lot of their relationships weren’t the best. Even when the virus is gone, they still want many of the people who were staying away from them to stay far away. No end to social distancing.
Unfortunately, there is no way to say this only to certain people….and most people would probably only adhere to this if absolutely required as it was during corona times.

It is truly a good reminder to everyone to support the women in their lives and to raise their children to do the same and to be the same. This is the kind of thing that would bring a smile to many people.

The New Method for Online Shopping
Although there is lots of controversy around the fact that “phones are listening to people”, some people have decided to embrace the idea and make the best of it. Instead of trying to do online shopping on their own and spend hours looking for what they want, they will just speak aloud what they are looking for and wait for the ads to (inevitably) come to them on their own.
Since this is happening anyway, you mind as well take advantage of what it has to offer, like these people who just wait for the ads to pop up.
Scary Thoughts From the Operation Game
Most people who have played the game Operation probably were too busy trying to remove the butterfly or rubber band that was stuck inside of the man to notice that the man’s eyes were actually wide open. El Arroyo wanted to see if anyone else noticed and was bothered by the fact that the man was clearly awake for the entire time that he was being “operated” on by the game players.
Why would they make it so that his eyes were open? It would have been just as easy for them to make him have closed eyes so that it would make more sense.
Beauty Is on the Inside
This sign is a lovely reminder for the day. Unlike some of El Arroyo’s other signs, this one is more inspirational than it is funny. They wanted to let everyone know that “you’re only as pretty as you treat people”. It is a beautiful quote that people should really take to heart. Before becoming focused and obsessed with their appearance, they should know that how they treat others is far more important in the end.
People probably drove by this sign and it maybe changed their perspective for a day and improved how they treated others.
The Shock of a Talking Parrot
Can you imagine what it would have been like for the first person to have a parrot talk back to them? It must have been a pretty shocking experience. After all, you think that, like the majority of other animals, they cannot speak a human language, and then all of a sudden you hear a few words. You’re unsure if they are just repeating you, mocking you, or answering you.
It most likely took them a few days to recover as this funny sign points out. They probably didn’t even want to tell their friends about it for fear of coming across as crazy.
Forgetting Something Important in the Car
Just about everyone can relate to this sign that was outside of El Arroyo. There is little more frustrating than leaving your car, walking for a bit, and then realizing that you forgot something crucial in the car. It could be a mask or your wallet or anything that you need to accomplish whatever task you set out to do. But whichever it is, it is so frustrating and angering.
This Tex Mex restaurant probably watched this happen many times as people would be excited to come into the restaurant and then realize they forgot their masks in the car.

One of the most shocking aspects of the pandemic had to be the obsession and hoarding of toilet paper that happened across the world. It was honestly crazy to see how many people rushed to the grocery stores to stock up on toilet paper instead of other food essentials. You can guarantee that those people would not survive a true emergency if that is what their survival instincts were telling them to do.
Although toilet paper is a convenience in life that no one really wants to be without, it is also not the most important thing in the world. You will survive without toilet paper.
The Birthday Cake Dilemma
It’s funny how your entire perspective can change in life after something like the coronavirus pandemic. What people used to think was normal suddenly becomes something unheard of and unthinkable. Take, for example, the idea of blowing out the candles on a birthday cake. Pre-pandemic no one even thought twice about doing something like this, but once corona came into the picture everything changed very rapidly and this was suddenly taboo.
As El Arroyo points out, it’s wild to think that people used to just eat that cake as if it was totally normal to consume something that people blew on.
The Most Used Phrase of 2020
With the onset of corona and the rise of working from home, people switched all of their real life meetings to zoom ones. Zoom, which was a known platform that could come in handy in a pinch, suddenly became one of the most used things of 2020. Everyone had to take their meetings online and everyone was doing it through zoom. As a result, people were having technical difficulties, especially with their volume.
That is what made “You’re on mute” one of the most used phrases of 2020. The number of times that people would try to talk on a meeting and not notice that they were on mute was far too many.
Tequila Instead of Coffee
People tend to think that coffee is the best way to start the morning, but El Arroyo seems to have a different idea. Maybe it is because they are a Tex Mex restaurant, or maybe it’s just a coincidence, but they think that tequila is a much better way to start the day than coffee. At least, if you want to look at the world with rose colored glasses it is.
This is probably not the best life advice, as drinking first thing in the morning is a risky habit, but it does make for a funny joke.

One of the funniest parts of the El Arroyo signs is that they are both accurate and funny, most of the time. This one says “a big nose isn’t an excuse for a mask. I mean, I still wear underwear”. It seems that some people were trying to get out of wearing a mask during corona times by claiming that their noses were just too big for the masks.
As the sign shows, this is just about as silly as claiming that you shouldn’t wear underwear because a certain other part is “too big”. It doesn’t make sense and is a poor argument.

This seems to be like a good disclaimer to put out there for everyone you know. Maybe it would also make for a good bumper sticker. Either way, it is a funny sign to see as you are on your way to work or about to head to a Tex Mex restaurant. This may not be what you were expecting but it does seem to have a funny sort of irony.

They manage to combine a funny saying that many people can relate to and also a concept that will attract people to their restaurant. This is the prime level of marketing as it combines humor with their product in a casual and not ad-like way. Listen to your body, they say as they lure you in.
You can imagine that so many people can relate to this as well. After all, whose body isn’t telling them to just sit and enjoy queso?

Some people greatly enjoy getting dressed up each and every day. They take great pride in their appearance and want to look their best no matter what the occasion. The Saga of the Avocado
Everyone loves a good avocado. However, good avocados seem not to love people too much. They have a timeframe of about one day when they are able to be eaten. You can wait for days on end for them to be ripe, wait half a day, and then find that you waited too long. It’s almost as if they do it on purpose. They are trying to avoid being eaten.
Maybe because avocados are so good for you, they insist on having a short lifespan. They have to be eaten in a very short amount of time.

There are so many similarities between the covid pandemic and superheroes, which is actually quite ironic. Most of the similarities come from the fact that both of the incidents and people involved mask wearing. Superheroes wear masks and everyone who lived through 2020 wore masks. If you put together a list of quotes that superheroes said and the same thing that people in 2020 said, you’d be surprised how similar they are.
A sign like this from El Arroyo was probably pretty comforting during 2020 itself. Everyone needed a little bit of lighthearted humor and this is a great way to give it!

If people had the chance to say something to 2020, they would probably have a long list of things that they could say…a long and angry list. However, what is written on this funny sign is perhaps the most relatable. “Alright 2020, take off the wig, we know it’s YOU”. If only the year could just take off its wig and call it a day, that would have been great.

People couldn’t smell perfume anymore, they were too busy covering themselves in excessive amounts of hand sanitizer. Although you probably never noticed a new scent for someone (because you were social distancing), the most exciting thing was finding a new scent for yourself.
It got you a little excited for the day, to know that you were wearing a new and fresh scent of hand sanitizer. After all, there wasn’t too much else going on at the time.
A Space That Makes Quite a Difference
What is the difference between a boyfriend and a boy friend? You would say that it is just that little space between the two words. But what does that little space also mean? It means the friendzone. This sign is funny while also being a little harsh. If you are stuck in the friendzone it might be hard to see a sign like this that so accurately portrays your situation.
El Arroyo seems to be pretty wise. They have signs on a whole range of topics. Not only are they discussing food and funny things, but love life as well, focusing on the friend zone in particular.
The New Suggested Category for Netflix
It’s funny to think that even mindlessly watching a Netflix show takes too much effort for some people. And they need an even more mindless option of movies or series that you can watch while scrolling through your phone. Sad or not, that is the state of the world. This feature could be very loved. Although they might want to call it “easy watches” instead of “easy to watch while on my phone the whole time”.
It is the plague of this generation. No amount of stimulation from the phone is enough, you always need a little bit more.
