Wedding Hair Down With Veil
Wearing your hair down on your wedding day is such a beautiful and relaxed look. However, for these styles I am often asked how a veil can be used if there is nothing for the comb to grab on to. If you’re wearing a veil, you want to be sure that it is secure and not going to slip or fall out completely. Disaster!
The trick is to create something for the comb to grab onto. This can be done by creating a small horizontal braid underneath the crown section of hair. Ensure this is close to the head and then allow the crown section of hair to fall over the braid. This hides it completely and the comb can then be slotted in above the braid.

Have a look online for inspiration, there are so many bridal stylist that have an online portfolio, there are also many that post simple tutorials on different curling techniques and simple updo tips and tricks.
Be sure to also research into suitable accessories that could work with a down style. One of my favorites for all the boho babes out there is a flower-crown! If you are considering using combs or pins, remember you are going to need to create something for it to grab onto so a simple twist and pin, a small hidden braid or even just a little teasing at the root would be needed.

Curly Wedding Hair Down
A question I get asked a lot is “Will the curls drop?” My answer is always “Yes”. However there are steps that can be taken to help the curl last.
- The right products! Using the correct products during the styling process is so important, you will be wanting product that promote texture, shine and of course hold. Speak to your stylist about which products suit your hair type and how they would best be applied.
- Hair length and weight! The heavier and longer your hair, the quicker it will drop. Strangely a great way to help is to add more hair! Adding a few rows of clip in extensions can act as a scaffolding for the curls giving them support.
- Let the curl cool in its freshly formed curl! Pin curling is a great way to do this. Once you have applied heat to create the curl, pin it close to the root and move to the next. Repeat throughout the head. Leave to cool! It’s the cooling process that really gives the curl staying power.

Loose Waves Wedding Hair
Creating a wave in your hair when wearing is down is so popular but have you noticed how they can look so different? This is not only a result of how they were styled but also how it is dressed out afterwards. Some options for styling is alternating the direction of the curl, this will give the wave a textured, beachy feel. Curling the hair in the same direction throughout will give a more uniform, hollywood style wave.
Another factor is the tool you are using, a wide tong will create a different wave to a narrow one and then you have heated rollers, wands, air wraps and straighteners! When dressing out after curling you may want to comb through with your fingers to break up the curls or you may want to brush it out for a looser wave. I would recommend trying out different techniques and tools to find which gives the wave you are wanting.
